The World of Askelon

Askelon is a world that was created by God in the far reaches of the universe. God created this land similar to Earth, however, the land has 5 regions, each with its own element. The elements of the land are earth, water, wind, fire and shadow. Each element has a corresponding region which helps to maintain the balance of the world.

God and the Five Angels

When God created Askelon he was also occupied with the events on Earth. He created five angels, one for each element, to carry out his will. His only rule was that the angels rule over the land according only to His laws.

 

Before life was breathed into this world, the angels decided to give a specific gift to each region. The inhabitants of the earth region would receive an increased intelligence compared to the other regions. The inhabitants of the fire region would receive increased strength. The inhabitants of the wind region would receive increased agility. The inhabitants of the water region would receive increased courage. The inhabitants of the shadow region would receive increased stealth-like abilities.

 

After several hundred years, life began to flourish. Four of the regions (earth, fire, wind and water) contained humans and beastlike creatures called beastmen. However, the shadow region spawned only beastmen and no humans. Both the humans and the beastmen inherited the gifts of the regions which can be seen in their eye color: green eyes for earth, red eyes for fire, blue eyes for water, silver eyes for wind and black eyes for shadow. The five angels decided to bless all inhabitants (humans and beastmen) with another gift called Apoplexy.

 

As more time passed and all the inhabitants started to establish their regions, the angels decided that they should show themselves to each region. When they did, the humans/beastmen began to worship them. The angels did not speak up to give the glory to God and decided to keep the glory for themselves.

Humans vs. Beastmen

After 150 years had passed, the humans and beastmen began to truly flourish. They developed their own cities and would trade. All the angels were happy with the status of Askelon, however, the shadow angel was in a world of confusion. All of the other regions had humans and he wondered why he was not blessed with them. Confusion turned into jealousy and jealousy turned into hate. That hate drove him to an idea; Use the beastmen in the shadow region to eradicate the other inhabitants of the world. To accomplish this task he would need to rule the beastmen closer than where he is. He also created a clone of himself to rule over them more closely. Once the clone was created, he named him Virendar and sent him into Askelon in the heart of the shadow region.

 

In the Shadow Region, the beastmen carried on their everyday tasks of making the Shadow Region flourish. These tasks included the building of their cities, growing crops and hunting. All of that came to a halt as an unknown human stood in the center of town that seemed to appear out of thin air. All beastmen set their gaze upon the unknown visitor. Virendar looked around him and stated, “I am Virendar. I have been sent to you to make your kind the top inhabitants in Askelon. I will lead you there and show you that the humans are an inferior species. I will become your leader.

 

The beastmen became enraged and belligerent toward Virendar. They began to surround him and were ready to attack. Virendar simply raised his hand. Suddenly, black holes appeared under the feet of the beastmen that were nearest to him. These unlucky few could not move and struggled. As they struggled they began to sink. Those beastmen who were free to move tried to help but were also being dragged into the hole.

 

Through the clone, the beastmen sought out the other beastman tribes from each region to create an alliance against the humans. A great number joined the factions while other beastmen decided not to defect toward evil.

 

Once he felt that there were enough beastmen forces, the shadow angel’s clone issued the order to attack the human cities. The other angels took notice of the clone and decided to create a weapon that contains all of their power and would vanquish the shadow angel’s clone.

 

As war waged on between the beastmen and the humans, the four angels noticed how one man that stood out among the rest. This man was from the water region and epitomized courage. Because of him, the humans rallied together to defeat the beastmen’s first attack on the humans in the water region. The angel’s decided to entrust the weapon to this man who was known as Osma Edelion. He was honored and named the sword Ascendancer, the Sword of Elements. With it he led the human armies and was able to defeat the beastmen. He battled against the shadow clone. Osma managed to dispel his power but was not able to vanquish him.

Current Events

With the events that happened, the humans and the beastmen could not return to their peaceful ways of living. There was strong tension between them in which they all created armies. The shadow clone receded back into the shadow region to regain his power and rebuild his army. This is now the status of the world of Askelon.

Regions and Cities

There are five regions of Askelon that correspond to each of the elements:

Races

Cryzalians

This race inhabits the Water Region of Askelon and created the Kingdom of Inia. The Cryzalians are the oldest and very noble race. They have ice blue eyes and have a variety of body types from pleasantly plump to skin and bones. Within each Cryzalians’ personality is their incredible sense of courage. With very few exceptions, they are assertive or aggressive about what they believe in. In a losing fight, a Cryzalian will continue to stand up and fight until they are knocked unconscious or die.

 

Aeolians

The honorable Aeolians inhabit the Wind Region of Askelon and created the city of Fujin. With their piercing silver eyes and muscular legs, Aeolians usually have a moderately tall (between 5’8”-6’5”), slim body type with defined muscles. However, there are very few Aeolians who are muscularly large, short or massive. Another distinguishing feature of an Aeolian is their agility. They are known to move quickly with very accurate movement. There is a saying in Askelon, “One must fight to protect what is important but fighting an Aeolian is like fighting the wind.” Luckily, many Aeolians are not aggressive and only fight when their honor is threatened.

 

Etanians

In the Fire Region lives the powerful and mighty Etanians and created a city called Katonia. The members of this race have red, fiery eyes and have large muscular bodies. With those large muscles comes their biggest feature, strength. They are the strongest race that exists in Askelon. The other races believe that if you made an Ethanian serious he can move a mountain, though, no one has ever witnessed such an event.

 

Midorians

In the Earth Region lives the most humble race, the Midorians. These inhabitants created the city of Avani. The Midorians are known for their glowing, green eyes and short bodies. Even though they are small, they are also the most intelligent of all the races. Because of their increased intelligence, they are able to fight tactically despite their small size and also able to outthink any of the other inhabitants of Askelon.

 

Zelians

In the grand depths of the Shadow Region lives the secluded Zelians. The Zelians are a beastmen only race. They created the city called Zeshada which resides very deep within the Shadow Region. This race utilizes the most frightening ability, stealth. They are able to meld into any environment that is encountered. They are able to surprise attack anyone they please. They really used this to their advantage during the war and still do today.

Story Synopsis

The state of Askelon is in distress as cities in all regions of this world cannot handle attacks from beastmen. The leaders of each elemental region are planning a March of Suppression against the rogue angel who is organizing these attacks. A young Cryzalian girl named Alex is learning to become a warrior in the Kingdom of Inia. Daughter of one of the Heroes of Inia, she seems to be destined for greatness. However, in a world where people’s eyes define their race, no one knows how to define a person with brown eyes.
